Non-paddling activities

Stay an extra day, bring your non-paddling friends or take a break from paddling and do something else. Great hiking along the river. Great views of the water fall. Arrangements can be made with Scott, the take out owner, to rent a fishing boat and explore the fabulous fishing in the area. Need some downtime? Read, sit on the dock and take in the outstanding views. Or relax in the sauna.

HIKING

The Kipawa River Trail is a historic path walked by Hollywood stars such as Rita Hayworth, Lana Turner, Johan Wayne and Kirk Douglas. During the 1920s the natural beauty of the Kipawa attracted the attention of film directors who produced several films in the area.

The starting point for the Kipawa River Trail is about 8 km north of Laniel on Highway 101. The 7-km trail from Highway 101 down to the Grande Chute, a 90-foot waterfall, on the Kipawa River is well-maintained with picnic areas and lookout points.

For those who prefer a less demanding trail, the Grande Chute may be accessed by car, with a 15-minute walk from the parking lot.

FISHING
Fishing at the mouth of the river as it pours into Lake Temiskaming is the best in the area.

Cliff Diving at the base of the Grand Chute (Caution: ensure the water is clear of logs and obstructions)
